How Does This Happen?

This is gross, but so sad. A guy in Ohio didn't get up from his chair for two years and the fabric fused to his skin. He was found covered in his filth and maggots. His live in girlfriend continued to feed him. What the hell prompts a guy to decide to sit down and never get up again? Here's the link from Ginx.
