Big news in the news world today, with the announcement of AOL buying new website, Huffington Post, which attracts 25 million monthly visitors. The purchase price: $315 million ($300 million of it in cash). Also part of the deal, CEO Eric Hippeau and Chief Revenue Officer Greg Coleman will both leave the company, while the Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington (pictured above) will become editor of all AOL “content properties.” This includes popular tech sites that include Engadget and TechCrunch, local news sites Patch.com and online mapping service website, Mapquest.
People are saying this a smart move on AOL’s part to get themselves back on the map. They haven’t been leaders in the world wide web since the days of their greeting “You’ve got mail,” when things started to really take off.
